“We’ll take a look at this one again” was the phrase I often heard from Judy (Mrs. Goldhammer) after blowing a Trig quiz at Del Tech well over thirty years ago. She would patiently go over my mistakes and show me again how to handle the equation. She was always there during staff office hours to show me again and again what I could not seem to comprehend in class. I knew Judy was Catholic like me and that was always in the back of my mind as I learned from her. I recall one time giving her a copy of a comic of a young boy kneeling down next to his bed the night before a math test saying something like: “Hello Lord. There is another big math test tomorrow and it’s you-know-who again”. I told her that the young guy reminded me of someone I knew! I greatly admired her patience and teaching skill and the great positive attitude she always had with me. I had the pleasure in later years to meet her husband and son and I am grateful to have known such a nice family. May she rest in peace.
