John W. “Butch” McGregor Jr., 65, of Dover, died July 14, 2011 at his home. He was born in 1946 in Lawrence, KS and was the son of Irene A. and the late John W. McGregor, Sr. He attended Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, PA and Holy Cross High School in Dover prior to enlisting in the United States Navy.
Mr. McGregor was a member of the American Legion, Walter L. Fox Post #2, Dover and a Life Member of the First State Chapter #1 Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Men of Malvern and Holy Cross Church. John was a friend to anyone who met him and will always be remembered for all of the kind deeds he did for family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother Patrick B. McGregor in 1989.
He is survived by his loving mother with whom he had lived, Irene A. McGregor; two sons, John W. McGregor, III and fiancée Shelley of Niantic, CT, and Jeffrey M. McGregor and fiancée Simone of San Francisco, CA; one brother, Mike McGregor and his wife JoAnn, of Camden, DE; three sisters, Eileen J. Doordan, of Selbyville,De, Maureen Rocheleau and husband Ron, of Gloucester, VA, and Kim Endres and husband John, of Dover, De; one sister-in-law, Valerie Plessinger and her husband Craig, of Columbus, OH; one uncle, Robert McGregor and two Aunts, Patricia and Phyllis, all of New Jersey; six nephews, two nieces, and one great nephew; a very special friend, Sherry and Jonathan Starkey and his Godchild, Hope Marie, all of Tewkesbury, MA.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 20, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 9 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
