Efrain Lozano, Jr. age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 in the Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware. Efrain lived a full and happy life; he was born in Eagle Pass, Texas on April 5th, 1925 to Efrain Lozano, Sr. and Inocente M. Lozano. He left Eagle Pass High School to join the Navy at age 17. From 1943 through 1946, Lozano served as petty officer in the South Pacific and was decorated with the American Theater Asiatic-Pacific World War II Victory Medal. He returned to Eagle Pass in 1947 to graduate from High School. Lozano went on to receive a B.A. in Business from Woodbury College, a B.A. in Business Education from Sul Ross State College, as well as a Masters in Management Psychology from the University of Central Michigan. He was a member of both Phi Gamma Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Societies. Before joining the Air Force Reserves, he was employed by the Eagle Pass Independent School District where he was much loved by his students and was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America serving as Scout Master and as an Assistant District Commissioner. In January of 1968 he was called to active duty after the capture of the U.S.S. Pueblo by North Korea. He was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base until he and his family were transferred to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Before retiring, he had achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Eventually, he found himself drawn back to Education and went to work at Wesley College as the Assistant Business Manager in the purchasing department. He later worked for the State of Delaware’s Division of Revenue as a compliance officer as well as The Department of Labor. He also had the chance to return to teaching, heading adult night classes in Bookkeeping at Delaware Technical Community College. Even in retirement Efrain kept busy. He was an active member of the Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus and the Air Mobility Command Museum Foundation. He served on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic Affairs and volunteered at the pharmacy at Dover Air Base. Any spare time he had was spent with his family and friends. He loved to read and was an avid writer; his most “famous” works regaled the adventures and antics of Rusty, the family cat (Efrain’s favorite grandchild). Above all, Efrain loved to trade stories, and could often be found sharing pieces of his life wisdom with anyone with a kind face and eager ear. Efrain leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years Lydia B. Lozano; son Ricardo Lozano; daughter, Christina L. Peirce; and daughter-in-law, Maryann Daves Lozano; along with grandchildren, Stephanie Peirce, Elizabeth Peirce, Geoffrey Peirce, Hannah Lozano and Sara Lozano. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Gilberto Lozano. Friends and family will remember him as quick with a joke, long with a story and forever leaving a lasting impression on each and every person that he met. Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm on Monday, February 6th at the Funeral Home of Michael Ambruso, 1175 S. State Street, Dover. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 State Street, Dover, at 10am on Tuesday, February 7th with internment immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Faithful Friends Animal Society located at 12 Germany Drive in Wilmington.
