Irene M. Looney, age 86, passed away March 24, 2012 at Bay Health Center, Dover.. Born in Poplar Grove, Ill she was the daughter of the late Roy and Sarah (McMullen) Grant. She and her late husband, Charles L. Looney, traveled extensively during his military career settling in Dover in 1969. Mrs. Looney had been a long time member of Holy Cross Church and was an extremely active person throughout her life. Conscious of her physical fitness she was an accomplished bowler and golfer, and was quite proud of her achieving a hole in one on two separate occasions. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who in her quieter moments enjoyed the time spent gardening and with her dogs.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 2 daughters, Patricia Precourt and Sandra Looney along with two sisters.
Mrs. Looney is survived by 2 daughters; Cynthia Hinkle and spouse, Charles of Dover, De, and Teresa (Terri) Looney and friend, Barbara Thornton, of Perryville, Md. Her sister, Lucielle Hubner of Chicago, Ill and three loving grandchildren; Nicole Hinkle, Daniel Precourt and Amy Piolunek.
Friends may call Thursday, March 29, 2012 starting at 9 am at Holy Cross Church 631 S. State St. Dover, De where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Family suggests donations in her memory be made to the American Cancer Society 92 Reeds Way Suite 205, New Castle, De 19720.
