Obituary for Richard James Marvel

Richard James Marvel – Dover, Delaware
Richard James Marvel of Dover, Delaware passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023 at the age of 78.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the second child of the late Benjamin George and Frances Patricia Marvel.
Richard’s parents relocated from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Dover, Delaware and Richard finished his high school career and graduated from Dover High in 1962.
Richard joined the United States Navy in July 1962 working as a SCUBA Diver and on a Submarine. He was honorably discharged in August 1969.
In June of 1973, Richard graduated from the 36th Academy Recruit Class and became a State of Delaware Trooper. He worked Troop 3 Traffic, Troop 3 Criminal, KENTCOM-911 and Special Investigations-Auto Theft Units at Troop 9.
He was involved in many special duties during his State Trooper career. He was a Haircut Specialist (16 yrs.), SCUBA Unit (17 yrs.), Air boat and Dive Training Officer, drug Interdiction Boat Captain and Auto Theft Investigator.
Richard retired from the State of Delaware in October 1993.
Richard loved fishing, playing cards, creating web pages, watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies and spending time with family.
Richard was a member of Little Creek Firehouse, Cheswold Firehouse, BPOE 1903, and DelVets Post 2. He loved volunteering for these organizations and cooking his famous Liver and Onions dinner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Patricia Marvel, wife, Glenda Marvel and Brother, David Marvel.
Richard is survived by his wife Linda Marvel of Dover, DE, his son Benjamin Marvel and daughter in law Erlean Marvel and their children Benjamin Marvel Jr. of Dover, DE and Garrett Marvel (Ashley) of Clarksville, TN, daughter Marcie Holmes and son in law Rick Holmes and their children Brian Holmes (Caitlin), Greg Holmes (Katie), Megan Holmes and Kevin Holmes of Medham, NJ. He is also survived by 5 step children, Gary Peters, Carlene Peters, Theresa Devroude of Magnolia, DE, Barbara Ohlig of Harrington, DE and Lynne Lott of Dover, DE
A private burial will be arranged at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
