Obituary for John Barry Burkett
John Barry Burkett (80), a longtime resident of Dover for over 46 years, passed away peacefully in his home on 25 February 2023 with all his family gathered around him.
He was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania to the late John Calvin Burkett and Mabel Adele Burkett on March 29, 1942.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Miriam Julia Burkett, and his sisters Sharon and Cheryl.
He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, obtaining the rank of MSgt and serving at various duty stations, including in the Vietnam war. He worked as a manager at Roma Restaurant in Dover, Delaware for 26 years. He was former President of the Leipsic Fire Company and was a volunteer at Bayhealth Medical center in Dover for the last 12 years. He was an active member of the Roby Methodist Church in Leipsic.
He is survived by his sons Ivan and Craig Burkett, daughter Elizabeth Hovey, his brother H. Scott Burkett and 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He had a passion for spending time with his family, volunteer work, and serving his community.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday March 1, 2023 at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso 1175 S. State St. Dover, DE 19901. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in John's memory to Roby Leipsic U.M. Church, Leipsic, DE or Leipsic V.F.C., 318 Main St., Leipsic, DE 19901.
