Obituary for Charles D Donovan
Charles Donald Donovan Sr., Age 94 of Dover, DE passed away on October 31, 2022 at Kent General hospital,Dover.
Charles, known as Charlie, Donald, Don or Captain was born in Aug of 1928 in Clayton, De.
He served six years in the US Navy, four active and two in reserve. He was a Newark De police officer for two years and retired from Dover Police Department in 1983 after completing twenty six years of service.
During retirement he and his wife Betty, traveled in their Midas motor home.
He was an NRA firearms referee at competitions and Betty would sometimes accompany him.
He was also a member VFW of Smyrna De, and will be remembered in his community for his smile, dedication to his family, police department and church.
He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Arella Poore Donovan, wife of fifty two years Sarah Elizabeth Donovan, brother William Donovan and sister Dorothy Etcher.
Charles is survived by his three children: Donna Donovan, Gail Henderson, Charles Donovan Jr and daughter in law Valerie Donovan. He is also survived by three granddaughters: Lisa Geesaman, Sarah Geesaman, Jessica Faulkner and grandson in law Randy Faulkner. Two great granddaughters: Reagan and Morgan Faulkner, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life: will be held 11am, Monday Nov 7th, 2022 at Maranatha Baptist Church, 605 Lebanon Rd, Dover De, 19901, Visitation will start at 10am. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden, De.
