Obituary for Charles Robert Smith

Smyrna— Charles Robert Smith, age 74, passed away unexpectedly, January 29, 2022 at his residence.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Lillian Small Smith. After graduating from Mendel Catholic Prep of Chicago Chuck served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970.
After serving his country he obtained a bachelor's degree in finance and later would start a long career in the railroad industry. He was employed by Penn Central and later would retire from Norfolk Southern Corp as a finance supervisor.
After retirement he and his wife Lois Ann moved from Pennsylvania to Delaware and would become active members of The Church of the Holy Cross Parish and Order Sons & Daughters of Italy, Caesar Rodney Lodge #2359.
He was a handyman, an avid history buff, he enjoyed traveling, watching sports but most of all spending time with his family.
Besides his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother Terrence Smith in 1983.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years Lois Ann Smith (Davino)
Two sons Kevin J. Smith of Smyrna, DE and Justin C. Smith (Lucia) of Franklinville, NJ.
A brother Dennis of Chicago, IL.
Two grandsons Vincent and Alex Smith of Franklinville, NJ

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 12 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2022 at The Church of The Holy Cross, 631 S. State St., Dover, followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery, Wilm., DE. Visitation will be held prior to Mass 10 :30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in Charles's memory to Disabled American Veterans, 183 South St. Camden, DE 19934.
