In his early years he worked side by side with his father learning the construction trade. Later father and son started Haass & Son Construction Company. He served a short term in the Merchant Marines where he learned to be a steam operator. He then went to work as a steam engineer at Chrysler Corporation. Upon retiring he found his passion as a game dealer at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.
As a child and young man he went by Larry, since his fathers name was Paul. Later in life he went by Paul and Phantom. His favorite names were Daddy and Poppy. Whichever name you knew him by, his smile is likely the first thing that comes to mind. He was an old soul who loved people and believed in doing business face to face and with a handshake. He loved life and cherished his time with family.
