It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Zimmerman (nee Kriss) announce her passing, on Saturday evening, November 25, 2017, at the age of 89.

Born on January 23, 1928 in Valley Stream, NY, Dorothy was a devoted teacher, wife, and mother to three sons. She taught at Holy Cross Elementary School for 30 years and is well remembered by her students as a warm and nurturing teacher. Family occupied the central place in her life and she will be remembered first and foremost as a loving matriarch who always had an open door and a listening ear.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Phyllis Kriss, her brother William Kriss, her son, Jon Zimmerman, and her husband, Henry Zimmerman, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage, prior to his death in 2011. Dorothy is remembered by her sons, William and Christopher (Paula) Zimmerman, both of Magnolia;, her sister Elizabeth Spiering of Greensboro, MD,; her brother Robert (Janet) Kriss of Dover; her sister-in-law Veronica Kriss of Dover; her daughters-in-law Jean Zimmerman and Nancy Zimmerman, both of Magnolia, Teri Jennie of Camden, and Patricia Rhodes of Lewes; 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Church in Dover on Thursday, November 30th at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends and family may call at Dorothy’s residence in Magnolia following the service at the cemetery.
