Obituary for John Joseph Daliani

John J. Daliani, age 88, of Dover, DE, passed away at his home on Friday, March 17, 2017. John was born in Jersey City, NJ, to John and Carmela Daliani. He served his Country in the US Army, during the Korean War. He received a BA in Accounting from Pace University, NY, and a Master’s Degree in Economics from the New York University Graduate School. In the Summer of 1963 he met his future wife, Strfania Powazka, while vacationing in one of the resorts in the Poconos. He was employed by the General Foods Corp. (presently Kraft Foods), at it’s headquarters in White Plains, NY.
In 1963 he volunteered to relocate to Dover, and to serve on a “Task Force” responsible for organizing and implementing “start-up” operations at the newly constructed General Foods manufacturing facilities. He served in various supervisory and managerial positions with the company until his retirement in 1987. For a period of time, he was an instructor in the Adult Evening Division of Wesley College. John is a long time member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he served on one of the original Parish Councils, and the Holy Cross Educational Foundation. In his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed many overseas trips, as well as winters on Sanibel Island, Fl.


Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Francis Daliani, who was a World War II combat veteran. John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Stefania Daliani; son John V. Daliani; daughter Stefania and Stephen Shamet and grandsons Alex and Matthew Shamet; sister Marian Marano and several nieces and nephews.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church,
Dover, De, where friends may call starting at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover, De. The family wishes to express much appreciation to Dr. Kimberlie Neal of Central Delaware Family Medicine, for her always ready help.
