Obituary for Catherine G. Bythway (Wagner)

Catherine G. Bythway, age 95, of Dover, died on June 25, 2016 in Waldorf, MD. Born in Philadelphia PA, she was the daughter of the late William AJ and Catherine (Meierhofer) Wagner. Catherine graduated from West Catholic Girls High School, and on May 17, 1939 she married Robert W. Bythway, Sr., later moving to Dover in 1949. Cathy was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and for many years she was employed as CCD coordinator. She was known as "Fast Fingers Bythway" or "Our Lady of the Bulletin" as she typed up the church bulletin. She was one of the first women to serve as a lector in the 1970's and continued for many years. Outside of church, she enjoyed going out for dinner, mostly for seafood, and visiting with family and friends. She was also an avid reader, but most of all she cherished the time spent with her family. Cathy was known as Mom, Grandmother, and by many as "Toots" and she will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, Cathy was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Robert Bythway, Sr., her son James Paul Bythway, her daughter, Catherine M. Bythway and her brother William Wagner.

She is survived by her son, Robert W. Bytheway, Jr., of Plano, TX; a sister, Betty Schmidt, and husband Mike, of Solebury, PA; along with 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and one on the way.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Life’s End Services are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director, Inc., Dover. Condolences may be forwarded via www.ambruso.com
