Obituary for Jean-Paul Pillet

Jean-Paul Pillet departed this life on May 25, 2014, six days after his 82nd birthday. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Swiss immigrants, Alphonse and Ella Pillet, he was raised on Staten Island where he attended St. Peter’s Boys High School. He later graduated from Wagner College.
Mr. Pillet was a U.S. Army Veteran and had served during the Korean War. He had been employed at Acme Super Markets where he met his wife of 55 years, Jane M. Brady. He developed many collaborative business and community relationships throughout his career in which he developed the Supermarket Careers Program in a number of schools and occupational centers in 4 states. His last 21 years of employment was with Wakefern Food Corp. where he gained recognition for Wakefern by collaborating with the NJ Dept. of Education and the National Grocers Association in developing the National Skills Standards for the Food Industry. His 47 year career in the supermarket industry ended in 1998 at Wakefern Food Corporation after 21 years. He was a Past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus in Avenel, NJ, a Board member of Read Aloud Delaware, and was selected as Goodwill’s Volunteer of the year for 2010. Jean was one of those people who really made a difference in the lives of people, especially the children that he read to in child care centers throughout Kent County.
Besides his wife, Jean leave six children, Susan Pillet, Jean Hosken, Philip Pillet, Barbara Ankney, Kate Pillet, and Ann Marie Schoenkopf; seven grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 10 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St. Dover, DE. Interment will be private. The Family suggests donations in his memory to Read Aloud Delaware, 100 West 10th St. Suite 309, Wilmington, DE 19801.
