Obituary for Clement A. Ippolito

Clement Anthony Ippolito, Jr., retired Dover U.S.P.S. mailman, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2013 at the age of 90. Born on September 12, 1922 to Clement A. and Irene Petruccio Ippolito in Belleview, NJ. He was the fifth of ten children. He attended Belleville High School and was very proud of his participating in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a teenager. On December 12, 1942 Clem was called to military service in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Staff Sgt. in the 3rd Battalion, 398th Infantry, 100 Infantry Division in Europe. He served as a light mortar section leader in charge and resposible for seventeen men. Clem took part in two campaigns, Central Europe and the Rhineland. Among his awards were the Combat Infantry Badge, the Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak-leaf cluster, and others. One of his proudest moments was when Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower shook his hand in France. Clem was honorably discharged on March 17, 1946. In 1950, Clem married Dolores Giammarino of Montclair, NJ. They remained happily married for over 36 years until Dolore's death in 1986. Clem was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover as well as several veteran and fraternal organizations. Clem is survived by his three children, James C. and his spouse, Elaine R. Ippolito of Lewes, DE; Judith D. Martin of Bridgeville, DE; and Thomas C. Ippolito of Baltimore, MD; his three grandchildren, Jacy C. and his spouse , E.M. Victoria Ippolito of Melrose, MA; Mirah Ippolito of Baltimore, MD; and Erin Simmons of Washington, DC; and his great-grandchildren, Milo and Emily Ippolito of Melrose, MA. Four siblings and many nieces and nephews. To Clem the 'glass of life" was always full of excitement and adventure. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, July 2nd in Holy Cross Cemetery located at New and William Sts. in Dover. Interment will follow. Family suggests donations in his memory to Delaware Hospice located at 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Condolences may be made here on this web-site.
