Bill Gerontakos, age 80, of Dover, died September 30, 2013 after a battle with cancer. The son of Teddy and Helen Gerontakos, he was born in Bay Shore Long Island, NY on November 26, 1932. Bill served in the armed forces in Korea as a Staff Sergeant. He moved his family to Delaware from New York in 1971 after purchasing the Shamrock Motel. He and his wife, Kay, owned and operated the motel for twelve and a half years. Bill loved bowling, and bowled in three leagues, which he always felt as if they were his family. Bill loved going to the casino and vacationed in Las Vegas 24 times with his wife Kay. Besides his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Kay Gerontakos, and a brother, George Gerontakos. He is survived by his friend, Pauline Perschau, of Dover; his daughter, Gigi Gregor and husband Bobby, of Dover; one son, Gus Gerontakos, of Dover; 2 sisters, Angie Erdman, of NY, and Margaret Gerontakos, of TX; a brother, Gus Gerontakos, of Nevada; six grandchildren, Alicia, Tiffany, and Ashly Legates, and Josh, Ryan and Dylan Gerontakos; and one great grandson, Rylan Harris. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9 starting at 4:30 p.m. followed by Services at 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bill’s memory be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
