Obituary for Margaret R Durk

Margaret R. Durk, 93, of Dover, DE. died March 28, 2018 in her home surrounded by her family
and was reunited in heaven with Jesus, her husband George A. Durk, her parents William J. Kerr & Rosemarie (O’Neill) Kerr and brother William J. Kerr, Jr. and sister in-law Dorothy Kerr. Mrs. Durk was born on June 17, 1924 in Manhattan, NY and graduated from Central Commercial High School in 1942. She had held various jobs prior to her marriage to George A. Durk on April 17, 1949. While her husband was serving in the US Air Force the couple lived in Oxford, England and Wichita, Kansas and eventually moved to Dover, DE on January 1, 1960. She had worked at Kent General Hospital for 26 years in the Physical Therapy Dept. retiring in 1989. Margaret was a master at knitting and crocheting afghans, sweaters, table cloths, doilies and bed spreads. The more difficult the patterns the better she enjoyed the challenge. Sewing, ceramics, china painting, cooking and baking were a few more or her interests. During the Easter Breaks Margaret could often be found with her friends, Alice and Beth, traveling throughout Europe. Her favorite places were Rome, Medjugorje and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico. She loved her Catholic Faith and attended Daily Mass at Holy Cross Church. She hosted the Home Prayer Center Bible Studies and was a member of the Neocatecumenal Way. Margaret leaves her daughter, Mary Rose Durk, sons, George A. Durk, Jr. (Mercedita), John Edward Durk (Janice), four grandchildren, Christina Rose Durk, Brian Patric Durk (Natalie), John Edward Durk, Jr. (Lauren) and Christopher Durk. Also survived by four great grandchildren, Jameson Durk, Margaret Jean Durk, Landon Durk and Emmery Durk. Three brothers, Edward Kerr, James Kerr (Maureen) and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Holy Cross Church South State St. Dover where friends may call and pay their respects starting at 9:15 a.m. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Family suggests donations in her memory to the Pregnancy Help Center 811 S. Governors Ave. Dover, DE 19904 or to the First State Animal Center & SPCA located at 32 Shelter Circle Camden, DE 19934.
