Obituary for H. Virginia Miller (Hughes)

H. Virginia Miller, age 97, of Dover died Friday, February 9, 2018 at home with her loving family. Born in Butler, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jay Gould Hughes and Agnes Bakey Hughes. She was a 1938 graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School in Woodcrest, DE and had attended Beacom College. Mrs. Miller had worked for the Atlas Powder Company and later for the Social Security Administration. In 1942, the beginning of World War II, Virginia married William J. Miller as he entered military service. In 1947, Mr. Miller transferred to the Dover Offices of the Delaware State Highway Dept. In Dover, Ginny was involved in many activities, in addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed bowling, golfing and bridge. She was a long time member of Holy Cross Church where she was a charter member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She was also a voluntary secretary for Holy Cross Rectory and was an avid volunteer for various programs at the church. Virginia is survived by her husband of 75 years, William J. Miller, Jr. and four children, Mary Anne Miller (husband, Warren Hensley) of Dover, Judith Ellen Rigby (husband, Reese) of Dover, Sarah Louise Miranda (husband, William) of Deltona, FL, and William J. Miller, III (wife, Jacqueline) of Saratoga Springs, NY, along with five grandsons and two great-grandchildren.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Holy Cross Church at 10:30 am precisely, where a viewing will take place starting at 9 am. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations in her memory to Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St. Dover, DE 19901 or to St. Thomas More Academy, 133 Thomas More Dr. Magnolia, DE, 19962.
