Raymond A. Whetstone, age 59, of Dover, passed away on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover due to a recent illness. Born in Montgomery, AL, he was the son of the late William and Sibyl (Bates) Whetstone. Raymond graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, AL and after graduation joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served for over 21 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. After retirement from the military, he had worked as a Correctional Corporal at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna. Raymond was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, and a friend to many, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Kelly Ward; son Kevin Whetstone, of Dover; his grandson, Zachary Ward, of Dover; his sister, Nita Franz, and husband Charles, of Montgomery, AL; and his brother, Kenneth Whetstone, and wife Charlene, of Orange Beach, AL.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 19th, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by a Service at 11:00 a.m. at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State Street, Dover, DE. Interment with Military Honors will follow in The Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery located in Bear, DE.
