Martha Ann (Downs) Witherite, 94, of Dover passed away on April 23,2014 at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood, Delaware. Martha was born on August 16, 1919 in Connellsville, PA to her late parents Clyde W. and Edna Downs. She lived in Greensburg, PA for 62 years with her late husband, Willis Lee Witherite, who died in September 2000.
Martha graduated from Connellsville High School in 1937. Following the raising of her children, she worked as a women’s clothing buyer for A.E. Troutman Company. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg, PA for over 60 years. In 2009 she moved to Dover and resided at Heritage Assisted Living prior to her illness.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her twin sister Mary Lou Fox and sisters Jane O’Casek, and Joan Lowe Sine.
Martha is survived by her children Richard (Linda) Witherite of College Station, TX, Kathryn (Edward) Gazze of Dover, DE, and Carole(Dale) Hayden of Wexford, PA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren,12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Martha will be greatly missed.
Services and Interment will be on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 12:30 P.M. in Greenridge Memorial Park, Connellsville, PA. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Greensburg, PA 15601 or to the Country Rest Home, 12046 Sunset Lane, Greenwood, DE 19950.
