Obituary for Roy Stewart Shiels

Roy Stewart Shiels, Attorney At Law, age 75 of Dover, De died May 3, 2015. Born in Royersford, PA he was the son of the late Thomas L. and Mary Rebecca Stewart Shiels.
Mr. Shiels was a founding partner with Herman C. Brown at the firm of Brown Shiels and Barros, now known as Brown Shiels and Beauregard. Mr. Shiels was a graduate of Girard College and Penn State University, where he pursued his undergraduate studies. He received his degree in law from the University of Michigan School of Law. Mr. Shiels practiced law for over 51 years and was a Past President of the Delaware Bar Association. He had served as Counsel to the Kent County Levy Court and was an active participant in Community affairs. He was a Past President of the Capital School Board, a member of the Kent County Levy Court, and a Retired Veteran of the Delaware Army National Guard where he served as a Major. He was a kind, gentle intellectual who was an avid Crossworder, was fond of global food and always possessed a kind word and a calm demeanor. He thoroughly enjoyed the time spent traveling with his beloved wife and always had a deep love of his puppies.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son, Jeffery S. Shiels who died in 2011.
Mr. Shiels leaves his loving wife, Socorro Longoria Shiels of Dover, DE, and daughter, Socorro Diane Shiels of Santa Rosa, CA. Also survived by his brother, Thomas S. Shiels and wife, Jean, of Lewes, DE, his special cousin, Bonnie Williams and spouse, Victor of Ridley Park, PA; along with nieces, nephews and several cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Graveside Services on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 1 PM in Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover, DE. Family suggests donations in his memory to Astra Zeneca Hope Lodge, 110 W. Laurel Ave. Cheltenham, PA 19012 to help support other cancer families. Condolences may be made via www.ambruso.com.
