Obituary for Bruce D Ralston

Bruce Dallas Ralston Born November 23, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late James A. and Norma C. Ralston. He attended Clairsville public schools, Baldwin Wallace College and Kent State University, all in Ohio. He began working at the age of 14 in the Hanna Coal Company stores and later served in the US Army along with six years of active Reserve. He was the founder of the St. Clairsville Little Theater and produced, directed and acted in several productions. He was employed in various sales and marketing endeavors in New England and the mid-Atlantic states prior to becoming the director of Governmental Affairs for the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce in 1967. He had formed Bruce Ralston Associates, Inc. in 1975 and lobbied in Delaware and Maryland for numerous business clients. He retired from lobbying in 2000. He served on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Capital Theatre, and the USO of Delaware. He enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the USO passenger lounge at Dover AFB for several years. He was politically active and served on many local campaigns. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers James A. Ralston, Jr. and Donald K. Ralston. Bruce is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane Weiss Ralston, his daughter, Karin Slacum, grandsons, Stephen Y. Bartlett, Jr. and Logan Dallas Slacum all of Dover. A brother Richard and his wife Beth of New Philadelphia, Ohio. Sisters in law, Maryrita Weiss of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Cathy Ralston of St. Clairsville, Ohio as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful friend, Chicklet. Bruce's life ended with dignity and grace on January 25, 2012 after a long courageous struggle with cancer. He will be greatly missed.
