Obituary for Pauline J. Riley

Pauline J. Riley, 85, passed away on December 24 in Anchorage, Alaska after a long illness. She was born in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of John G. and Catherine (Lanigan) Jameson of Prince Edward Island. The youngest of 11 children, she was raised in South Brewer and graduated from Brewer High School. In 1952, Pauline married Robert Riley and moved to Wilmington, Delaware. Pauline and Robert raised three sons in Delaware, eventually settling in Dover. Pauline retired from the Delaware State Housing Authority and remained in Dover until her illness made it necessary for her to relocate to Anchorage in 2008 to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Pauline enjoyed summer trips to Maine and Prince Edward Island, boating and crabbing on the Chesapeake, the song birds in her yard, card games, children, making big breakfasts, telling stories, and an occasional gin and tonic. Most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends. For over fifty years, Pauline was a selfless wife and mother, devoted to her friends and family. She gave generously and cheerfully to those she loved and she never stopped to count the cost. Pauline is survived by her sister, Dorothy Smith of Greenville, Tennessee; her sons, John and Daniel; her Grandson Marlon; and by many nieces and nephews scattered from Maine to Florida. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on March 12, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Dover, De. Private Interment will follow in Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers, please make someone you love a big breakfast or a nice gin and tonic. Arrangements are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director Inc., Dover, De.
