Obituary for Addie Lessard

Joseph “Addie” Lessard
After a brave battle against cancer, Addie Lessard of Camden, DE died Monday, September 23, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born in Greenport, NY, he was the son of the late Adelard J. and Genevieve (Vetter) Lessard.
Addie graduated from Mercy High School in Riverhead, NY and received a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from Long Island University Southampton, NY and a Master’s degree in Oceanography from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
Addie was a third generation building contractor, operating a construction business in the Dover area for over twenty-five years.
He had a lifelong love of the water and especially enjoyed time spent at the family home at Pickering Beach where he frequently went on long walks with his faithful border collie Annabel.
Addie was also well-known in the Rising Sun area for his garden and fruit trees. He spent many hours outside tending his garden and passersby frequently stopped for gardening advice which he was only too happy to provide.
Addie and his wife Micheale shared a love of running. They ran countless 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, and they ran two marathons together.
He is survived by his devoted wife Micheale along with five children; Christopher Lessard of Greenwood, DE, Jared Lessard of Irvine, CA, Elizabeth Lessard of Phoenix, AZ, Alexandra Lessard of Hartly, DE and Tyler Mays of Marysville, OH plus three grandchildren. He is survived by four brothers and one sister; Daniel (Amy) Lessard of Suffield, CT, Paul (Debbie) Lessard of Ocala, FL, Michelle (Raymond) Krogman of Orlando, FL, Brian (Kathy) Lessard of Camden, DE, Colin (Tracy) Lessard of Haddonfield, NJ and Sara Lessard (wife of late brother Michael) of Riverhead, NY.
Friends may call Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 5-8 pm at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Interment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Donations in Addie’s memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Condolences may be made via www.ambruso.com.
