The Gillis family is saddened by the passing of their beloved mother Doris C. Gillis. She passed peacefully surrounded by her four loving daughters on January 19, 2012. Doris passed at age 96 after a fulfilling life. She was the youngest of ten children. In her early days she was a professional Spanish dancer. During WWII she worked as a secretary in an import/export business and spent her free time giving our servicemen support at the USO. She dedicated her life to being a loving wife and mother raising five children. She took an active part in church activities, fundraisers and volunteered her time to teach children basic reading, writing and math skills. She had returned to work later in life to support the higher education of her children. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Albert Anthony Gillis, her son Paul Anthony Gillis and all nine of her siblings. She is survived by her four daughters: Toni Gillis of Dover, DE; Chita Gillis, Santa Fe , NM; Terri Ann Olson, Morris, IL; and Lisa Keating, Darien, IL. She is additionally survived by 7 grandchildren and one great - grandchild. A viewing is being held Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St. Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 12 noon on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at Holy Cross Church in Dover. A Committal Service will be held on January 28, 2012 at the Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband. The family suggests donations in her memory to the Adult Daycare Program "Daybreak" at the Dover Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave. Dover, DE 19904-3308
